The improvement of a living room can come in a lot of forms, but when you think about the ceiling you may not even realize that beyond a simple cleaning, it really helps to properly paint the ceiling once in awhile to keep it looking its best.

However, what you may not realize is that a well painted ceiling takes more than deciding to paint the ceiling and starting — you need to plan the painting project well and then execute it just as well in order to have a ceiling that will look its best for years to come.

With that being the case, let's have a look at some living room ceiling painting tricks to learn for when you want a well painted ceiling.

1. Use Ceiling Paint

One thing you're going to want to do when you're looking to paint your living room ceiling is to make use of ceiling paint.

While of course you may be well aware of the fact that you should use interior paint and not exterior paint for your painting project, you may not realize that ceiling paint is going to make that much of a difference in painting your living room ceiling.

Indeed this is the case as you will find that ceiling paint is going to not only look better on your ceiling but it will be less likely to drip as much onto your floor as a standard interior paint, which is good for the overall painting project.

2. Cover The Floor

Though you may be using ceiling paint, this doesn't mean that you should just leave the floor uncovered — unless you plan on painting your floor at the same time and with all of the uneven nature of having paint drip down occasionally onto it.

By making sure that you cover the floor either with a tarp or drop cloth, you are going to find that you will get that paint onto the floor covering rather than the floor itself, which is a lot easier to handle.

It's significantly faster to make the time to cover the floor and then not have the paint on the floor to deal with which is quite a bit more difficult to remove once it's there — it's well worth the effort.

3. Use A Ladder

If you're going to be doing anything to bring yourself up to the ceiling, you are going to be better off making use of a ladder rather than some kind of scaffolding system and this is a better idea for a number of reasons — a couple of which we will set out right now.

One thing that you're going to find when you make use of a ladder is that you are going to have an easier time getting to the ceiling regardless of where in the room you are — whereas if you make use of a scaffolding system, it's quite a bit more difficult because they tend to be a lot more difficult to get to different parts of the room particularly if you have any furniture in the room.

You're also going to find that when it comes to absolute safety, you're better off making use of a ladder and this is definitely the case when you have someone there to hold the ladder in place so that it is more stable but even when you don't have someone holding it in place, it will be better than a makeshift scaffolding system that can fall apart as you are using it leaving you vulnerable to what could be quite a dangerous fall.
